Carrots in the grocery store come in nice little bags and the carrots themselves are all a nice uniform size, both in length and diameter. When I first wrote about our CSA I commented that I would not be putting our carrots in a lath machine and make them all the same size. After pulling carrots yesterday I realize why carrots are all cut down to the same size. The first carrot I pulled was a double carrot. The second carrot was the longest one I've ever pulled, about 10 inches. The next was exploded open, then there were the 2 and 3 inchers. These were all planted at the same time, only seconds apart and the variety in shape, size, and usability was astounding. So I either need to go on a campaign to bring back the 'ugly, un-uniformed' carrot, or lath them?
