Planting, a little more Sustainable

Last year when we started planting we purchased the typical seeding trays, plastic black trays with little cardboard inserts.  As we geared up this year we looked at the black plastic trays and thought, "Hmm, plastic, this doesn't seem like the best option."  It meant consuming more and more each year, with the end result being adding more plastic to the landfill.  So we began our search for something more sustainable, as sustainablity is one of our goals.  We found soil blockers.  A stamp like device that is filled with soil mixed with water and out punches little planting blocks with an indent for the seed.  Pete used scrap lumber to create the trays, and today I punched out 130 blocks and started all eleven varieties of tomatoes plus purple tomatillos.
